👉What is an Abstract:
Ø The 250-300 word abstract will
highlight the important features of the thesis/dissertation/ project report .Generally
it is termed as Executive Summary in technical reports.
Ø An abstract will be considered as a
movie trailer. People will only read the rest of the manuscript if they find
your abstract attractive and interesting.
Ø Always write the abstract after you
have cultivated writing your whole paper.
Ø Select and pick up key statements
from your introduction, methods, results, and discussion sections to shape your
abstract with a logical flow.
Ø Edit your abstract carefully to make
it exhibiting and meet the word count requirements of the journal.
Ø An abstract must include Key words
and phrases that quickly identify the content and focus of the work.
👉Types of abstract:

Critical
abstract –Here, the researcher evaluates some paper and compares it
to other works and papers on the same topic

Descriptive abstract – A descriptive abstract tells the
type of information found in the work. It describes the summarized
work without comparing it to other papers on the given subject
·
Informative abstract –It presents all the main arguments
and important results. It includes conclusions of the research and
recommendations of the author
·
Highlight abstract – It is written to attract the reader’s attention, not
often used in academic writing
👉Rules for writing Abstract:
1.
All information/content
presented in the Abstract must appear in the report body as well; no
new content is allowed. (rigid rule of technical writing)
2.
Do not
present any figures or tables in the Abstract. (rigid rule of
technical writing)
3.
Do not
cite references or discussion of previous literature
4. Check once final abstract whether it
is meeting the ground rule of the target journal (e.g. word limit, type of
abstract etc)
